Isidor Achron (1892-1948)

Isidor Achron, youngest brother of Joseph Achron, was born on November 11, 1892, in Warsaw. 

As he showed a decided musical learning in early childhood, his older brother placed him in the St. Petersburg Conservatory, where he first studied piano with Nicolai Doubassov and Annette Essipov, rounding out his studies with Anatol Liadov in composition and Maximillian Steinberg in orchestration. After three years of service in the Russian army, Achron was graduated from the conservatory in 1918 and went on a concert tour of Russia and Germany. He appeared as soloist with a large symphony orchestra in Pavlovsk, near St. Petersburg. In Berlin he gave four concerts in the course of one season.

He came to the United States in 1922, where made his debut in a concert at Carnegie Hall, New York. In 1923 he became permanent accompanist of violinist Jascha Heifetz for a full decade. After leaving Heifetz, Achron resumed his career as soloist and composer. In 1945 he performed his final solo recital at Carnegie Hall, presenting a program of his own works played alongside those of Mozart, Chopin, Liszt, and Ravel. 

Isidor Achron died on May 12, 1948, in New York.
